Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay Example for Free

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay This is the narrative of Okonkwo, a prestigious warrior and grappler, who lives in the Ibo town of Umuofia in Nigeria, Africa. Regarded by the seniors of his family, he would like to turn into a senior himself sometime in the not so distant future. Because of his relationship with his dad, Okonkwo has a solidified heart and accordingly, his activities all through the novel are represented by outrage and dread. Okonkwo, (per African custom), has three spouses and numerous kids. He is prosperous and effective toward the start of the story, however his heart doesn't mellow. Thus, he commits numerous errors and is in the end ousted from his group for a long time. While Okonkwo is away from Umuofia, white teachers settle in his clan’s town and start to lecture Christianity. The clan starts to change, particularly its more youthful individuals, and when Okonkwo comes back from banish, he sees the progressions and endeavors to switch them. He battles against the new laws of the white man and relations between the group and the whites break down until things at last arrive at a crescendo. Okonkwo’s dread Things Fall Apart, composed by Chinua Achebe, is an account of a man whose life is ruled by his apprehensions. There are numerous unobtrusive topics all through this book. One topic that shouts out over the rest is Okonkwo’s, the principle character, dread of shortcoming as observed through his adolescence, his most seasoned child, and in the end his demise. Since his youth, Okonkwo was embarrassed about his dad, â€Å"In his day he (Unoka) was lethargic and improvident and was very unequipped for considering tomorrow†(p.4). By the standard of his tribe, Unoka was a weakling and waster. At the point when he was a youngster, a kid called Okonkwo’s father an agbala. This word implies â€Å"woman† just as a man who has no title. His recklessness left various obligations unpaid at his demise. Embarrassed about his dad, Okonkwo tried sincerely and battled well to increase a notoriety of high status and impact in his family. He obtained three spouses, one whom gave him his first child. Okonkwo’s first spouse, whose name is never referenced, brought forth his first child, Nwoye. Okonkwo saw Nwoye frail and sluggish since the beginning. For this, Nwoye was beaten continually. Okonkwo was profoundly requesting of his family due to his fixation not to resemble his dad. He mixed up this conduct as manliness. He wished his child were a promising, masculine child like his companion Obierika’s child, Maduka, who was likewise an incredible contender. One night the town of Umuofia was informed that somebody in Mbaino had slaughtered one of their â€Å"daughters†. The lady was Ugbeufi Udo’s spouse. The blood cost for the homicide was a virgin and youngster to Umuofia. The virgin was given to Ugbeufi Udo as his significant other. They didn't have the foggiest idea how to manage the little youngster, Ikemefuna. Okonkwo was solicited for benefit from the group to deal with the kid. Covertly, Okonkwo became partial to Ikemefuna, â€Å"Even Okonkwo himself turned out to be extremely enamored with the kid deep down obviously. Okonkwo never indicated any feeling transparently, except if it be the feeling of anger†(p.28). Ikemefuna lived with Okonkwo and his family for a long time until the opportunity arrived when the Oracle said that Ikemefuna must be killed. Okonkwo was cautioned not to have any part in murdering the kid who called him father. He disregarded this and after returning sank into a profound despondency which aroused the burden within him. The passing of Ikemefuna, yet in addition the coincidental murdering of Ogbeufi Ezeudu’s child, which gets Okonkwo and his family ousted for a long time, helpers in his downturn. To make amends for the slaughtering of his clansmen’s child, Okonkwo and his family were thrown out of Umuofia and had to go live with his mother’s tribe in Mbanta. In their second year a gathering of six teachers headed out to Mbanta and attempted to convince the individuals from their bogus divine forces of wood and stone to the one genuine God. They caught Nwoye and he later joined their assemblage. When Okonkwo was educated regarding the news he choked Nwoye out of frustration. He addressed how he could have fathered such a frail child. Toward the finish of the seven-year banish, Okonkwo had the option to get back. In any case, the congregation had taken over Umuofia moreover. Nothing was the equivalent. Okonkwo wouldn't coordinate with the new guests. He imagined that the clan’s inability to expel them was â€Å"womanly†. Practically cheerful once more, Okonkwo started to acknowledge the new Umuofia. At that point the pioneers of the tribe, including Okonkwo, were taken for deliver by the congregation. Profoundly rankled by what was going on, Okonkwo executed one of the pioneers at a gathering. The conciliation of Okonkwo’s family is the thing that discouraged him. He realized his group would not do battle. This longing to act viciously all returns to his father’s absence of want. At long last the savagery chose Okonkwo, when he hung himself. Taking everything into account, every one of these perspectives: his youth, his first child and Ikemefuna, and his passing contribute in clarifying Okonkwo’s dread of shortcoming. Okonkwo’s life was constrained by his feelings of dread. He esteemed the achievement of his family and the network with his own prosperity. In the event that Nwoye was feeble it was on the grounds that he had fizzled as a dad. The mollification of the town was an impression of Okonkwo’s disappointments, he thought. Not having the option to control those occasions, Okonkwo, out of distress or either out of the pride in his masculinity or maybe both, executed himself. Notwithstanding Okonkwo’s beginnings in destitution and incident, he has ascended as one of the most regarded seniors of the tribe. However others comment on how cruelly he manages men less effective than himself. For instance, at a gathering to talk about the following hereditary dining experience, Osugoâ€a man without titlesâ€contradicts Okonkwo, who thus affronts Osugo by announcing the gathering are â€Å"for men.† When others at the gathering side with Osugo, Okonkwo apologizes. Okonkwo’s hard-earned achievement is apparent in light of the fact that the group picks Okonkwo to convey the war final offer to their adversary, the foe treats him with incredible regard in the dealings, and the older folks select Okonkwo to think about Ikemefuna until they choose how to manage him. When the youngster is endowed to Okonkwo’s care, the remainder of the family overlooks him for a long time. From the start, Ikemefuna is very unhappyâ€he misses his mom and sister, he attempts to flee, and he won’t eat. After Okonkwo takes steps to beat him, Ikemefuna at last eats, yet then retches and turns out to be sick for twelve days. As he recoups, he appears to lose his dread and bitterness. Ikemefuna has gotten famous in Okonkwo’s house, particularly with Nwoye and different kids. To them, he appears to know it all and can make helpful things like woodwinds, rat traps, and retires from. Indeed, even Okonkwo has internally gotten partial to Ikemefuna, however he doesn't give affectionâ€a womanly indication of shortcoming. He treats Ikemefuna with an overwhelming hand, as he does different individuals from his family, in spite of the fact that he permits Ikemefuna to go with him like a child to gatherings and dining experiences, conveying his stool and his pack. Ikemefuna calls Okonkwo â€Å"father.† During the yearly Week of Peace not long before planting time, convention allows nobody in the town to express a brutal word to someone else. One day during this week, Okonkwo’s most youthful spouse, Ojiugo, goes to a friend’s house to plait her hair, and she neglects to get ready Okonkwo’s evening supper and feed her youngsters. When Ojiugo returns, Okonkwo beats her harshly. In any event, when he is helped to remember the prohibition on viciousness, he doesn’t stop the beating. Since Okonkwo’s infringement of harmony can risk the entire village’s crops, the cleric of the earth goddess orders Okonkwo to make contributions at his hallowed place. Despite the fact that Okonkwo internally laments his â€Å"great evil,† he never admits to a mistake. His hostile breaking of the harmony and the priest’s mellow discipline are discussed in the town. After the consecrated week, the ranchers of the town start to plant their gather. Okonkwo permits Ikemefuna and Nwoye to enable him to gather, tally, and set up the seed-sweet potatoes for planting, however he ceaselessly criticizes their endeavors. He accepts that he is just helping them become familiar with the troublesome and masculine craft of seed-sweet potato planning. Before long, the stormy season starts and the planting happens, trailed by the extreme time of care for the youthful plants. During the resting time among planting and reap, the kinship among Ikemefuna and Nwoye becomes much more grounded. Reference * Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Decision Making Process in Statistical Data Analysis

Question: Examine about the Decision Making Process in Statistical Data Analysis. Answer: Presentation: Buyers are people who are regularly focused by advertisers to advance their business. Shoppers needs regularly change contingent upon the nature of administrations offered to them, value, demography, and fulfillment. Because of the numerous requests from customers, advertisers frequently face a test of changing their items to suit purchasers requests (Christopher 2016). Most advertisers' most prominent wants are reliably equipped towards learning the customer minds. Advertisers frequently need to learn or know about measures that buyers regularly use in the dynamic procedure. The craving among advertisers on a comprehension of customer dynamic procedure has universally pulled in the consideration of scientist inside the promoting field to lead inquire about on purchaser dynamic procedure (Oliver 2014). The scientists thought of various advances which were additionally converged into the accompanying five stages. The five stages that are pointed towards customer dynamic procedure inco rporate issue acknowledgment, the inquiry procedure, elective assessment procedure, and determination stage and choice assessment stage (Kotler et al. 2015). Issue Recognition Issue acknowledgment stage is a phase whereby the purchasers frequently distinguish an issue that they have to settle or make a move to end the point. Issue acknowledgment steps perceive that during this point the shoppers are regularly popular for an item and are looking for different open roads in which they can discover the items they need. A few purchasers frequently result into doing window shopping's, scanning for items they want on the web, from magazines or even through interview with companions mindful of their needs. During this stage, more than seventy five percent (3/4) of customers for the most part feel awkward until they take care of the issue (Maine, Soh and Dos 2015). The advertiser job during the difficult acknowledgment process is to decide explicit land areas where their items are on request at that point make the most of the developing chance to publicize their items through various channels of the business showcasing process Search process The pursuit procedure is a circumstance whereby shoppers who are needing sure items that they feel will fulfill their necessities makes a move of scanning for the items. There are various techniques that purchasers can use to look for a product's. Case of a pursuit procedure that can be utilized for finding an item is the advanced strategy. The computerized technique for looking for items is a web based procedure item search where the shopper utilizes the inquiry improvement motor to discover items they need (Brian 2015).The manual strategy, then again, is where customers by and by do investigate on the items they need by visiting different shops or by inquisitive from their companions. The fundamental bit of leeway of a standard item is customers can see the state of being of the item they need to buy in this manner making it simpler for a purchaser to settle on their choices (Ferrell and Fraedrich 2015). Another bit of leeway of manual pursuit depends on requests from loved ones. T hrough examinations, purchasers will have the option to show signs of improvement suggestions on areas where they can get their ideal items. Assessment choices An appraisal alternative consistently happens after a buyer has recognized the items he/she wishes to purchase (Jrvstrand, Larsson and Sundstrm 2016). During an assessment procedure, the purchasers are as a rule in the inquiry approach of the best item in the market. Buyer decision on best items is constantly affected by a few elements. Such factors incorporate value, amount and quality, method of conveyance if it's an online exchange and the client assistance agreed to them. Clients are additionally connected with a propensity of perusing surveys of the items from different customers who have bought the item previously. From the surveys; the clients will have the option to look at costs, and nature of the administration offered by a given association at that point can buy items they want. For instance; through an online survey of a specific item, clients can think of choices on the best spot to fulfill their client needs. Choice procedure In the wake of including all the methodologies for the choice made by clients, the clients is presently ready to choose the item they wish to buy and on the area of the item. The choice procedure expects customers to face challenges of the items they need to purchase. Another choice procedure necessity is that the buyers ought to be unequivocal on items they need to buy. During the choice procedure, the vast majority of the customers for the most part have related knowledge of the specific item in this way making it simpler for them to buy their ideal items rapidly. Choice assessment Choice assessment is as a general rule dependent on the buyers see on the items (Atkinson and Rosenthal 2014). For example, the buyer regularly investigates issues like whether the bought item fulfills client needs, regardless of whether it is beneath or above clients desires. This suggests the item makers to utilize pioneering strategies to draw in more clients. The target of most advertisers isn't frequently founded on a one-time customer yet rather a full-time client. Terrible encounters on an organization survey may change purchaser perspectives on the item. Breaking down Whether the Consumer Decisions are Accurate Representations of Accurate Decision Making Dynamic procedures are not just about impacting chiefs to take care of their issues, however it is additionally worried about straightforwardness and precision. A properly settled on choice can assist people with enhancing specialists exactness and the clearness of the significant decisions (Hogarth and Soyer 2015). A decent dynamic procedure is controlled by elements, for example, consistency, straightforwardness, flexibility, improvement and exactness (Shaik and Abdul-Kader 2014). The components deciding dynamic procedure are interrelated to one another. The precision of a choice example is affected by straightforwardness, consistency, versatility and improvement or advancements. Straightforwardness, off base dynamic procedure, is accomplished when a spectator or somebody not associated with the choice procedure can promptly perceive how an individual agreed to a choice (Ho 2015). Achieving consistency in a precise dynamic procedure legitimately infers that the individual associated with a dynamic procedure can settle on comparative decisions given a similar data. For example, in advertising, a customer consistency can be followed when buyers are extraordinary to a given item regardless of the presence of different items identified with the items. Precision in dynamic procedure requires advancement and upgrades because of the cutting edge changing mechanical occasions caused because of globalization (Kerzner 2013). A choice is proclaimed exact in the event that it continues improving and not stale for an all-inclusive period. An exact choice ought to be versatile; this implies the choices can be balanced in order to fit into the necessary evolving arrangement s (Miller and Olshavsky 2016). The five stages of the buyer dynamic procedure can be connected to exactness in the accompanying manners; The initial step of shopper choice, Problem acknowledgment, is an exact portrayal of genuine dynamic as issues distinguished are reliant on the circumstance, and subsequently choices are made relying upon the current circumstance. During a difficult acknowledgment process, it is anything but difficult to achieve straightforwardness as customers are edgy and awkward until they get answers for their issues. The progression can, in this manner, be named an exact portrayal for a sensible dynamic preparing since straightforwardness is a piece of the model that gives a precise dynamic procedure. The second step of buyer dynamic procedure is the hunt procedure. The inquiry procedure is dependent on versatility and improvement. Flexibility and improvement in an inquiry procedure are apparent when a purchaser utilizes an internet searcher to search for an individual item. The web crawlers like Google regularly give data relating specific item from the current to past subtleties (Yadav and Pavlou 2014). The third step of buyer dynamic procedure is the assessment elective. The evaluation choice is frequently worried about a shopper searching for elective data in regards to an item and browsing the best. The assessment procedure might be exact when the purchaser utilizes the experience of their loved ones when they need to buy an item. This is on the grounds that companions are family are probably going to allude individuals identified with them to advertisers who offered them the quality item. The reference from loved ones is a consistency approach as they can pick a similar item again and again. The fourth step of a shopper dynamic procedure is the determination procedure. The determination procedure is a satisfactory portrayal of shopper precise dynamic as the customer has the freewill option to pick a result of intrigue. During the determination procedure, the buyer settles on their decisions dependent on the item value, client care and the quality and amount of the item in proper cases. Another motivation behind why the determination procedure is seen to be customers precise portrayal of real dynamic is that the shopper can choose and purchase an item relying upon the value they have and on the quality he/she wants. The fifth procedure of purchaser dynamic advance is the choice assessment stage. During this stage, the purchaser frequently assesses an item dependent on the advantages or issues it has caused them (Blut, Beatty, Evanschitzky and Brock 2014). The choice assessment step is a precise portrayal of purchasers dynamic as the consum

Advanced Database - Free Essay Example

Introduction An advanced database is involved in gathering of data that is planned so that it can be easily retrieved, accomplished and reorganised as well. The advanced technology has greatly evolved from peer to peer, peer to server and from server to cloud base system. However the advanced database system has different pros and cons within. Some of the advantages of this database system include reduced costs, saves on time consumption, and allows easier retrieval of data. Some of the most important configurations used in advanced database include the Network topology and the backbone system. Peer-to-Peer was established for substantial courtesy starting from both invention and academic world as a form of circulated computation lying between the traditionally distributed systems and the web. Peer to server this has greatly changed from two peers (computers which were used which were used to generate their resources in a decentralized manner thus, opting to bring difficulties. Therefore the peer was transformed to a server which operated in a centralised manner which enabled the server to serve many clients. Also the advanced database system has evolved to cloud based system which relay on sharing of computing resources other than having personal resources or devices as well. A physical topology refers to the physical design of networks, the cabling system design used to link devices. This mentions to the design of? electrics, the sites of nodules, and the acquaintances in the midst of the nodules and the wiring (Shi, Lo, Qian, etal. 2016). The corporal topology of a system is unwavering by the competences of the net entree devices and mass media, the glassy of resistor or culpability acceptance is anticipated, plus the charge allied with wiring or satellites paths. This topology relationship aids in database storage and maintenance of the available nodes and the links in the networks and characteristics. Examples include Mesh, Star, Bus, Ring and Star topologies. Mesh topology This is one of the networks system in which the networks are linked with many terminated interconnections between net nodes. There is joining of nodes in this systems through use of a circuit. Mesh Topology is therefore divide into the full mesh and partial mesh topologies. Full mesh topology mainly arises when all cables within this network system has a path linked to nodules within it. This network topology therefore lavish to contrivance but in this scenario it ends up cropping the utmost volume of compensation. On the other hand, a partial mesh topology is less expensive for implementation and crops fewer termination as compared to full mesh topology. In this topology, specific lumps are structured in a full mesh system while others are linked to one or two nodes within the system. Star Topology It is a star-like network, in which the hub (main computer) links the devices. The nodes interconnect from lump to the other by paving data through the hub.one major merit for this topology is that, one faulty of the node within its network system does not interfere with the rest of the system. Its core demerit is that if the hub fails, the entire system does not function. Bus Topology A bus topology is a centralized cable with a main wire that is used to link all the devices on a Local area Network. The bus topology can also be referred as the backbone of the network. This network is fairly cheap and easier to connect in minor systems. As compared to star topology, the bus topology requires less cables thus making it easier to connect a device. However the bus topology has got its own demerit which occurs when a wire break down therefore no transmission data will occur and sometimes the problem cannot be easily retrieved thus causing 7the network to shut down. Ring Topology This topology is also a Local area network. However, all its nodes are connected in a close loop. This therefore indicates that messages travels around the ring network with which every node within the topology reads each messages that has being addressed. The ring topology has got one main merit which is it can span large distances compared to any other network topology since each of its nodes regenerates message as they pass through them. Tree Topology A tree topology is also referred as the hybrid topology which involves a combination of both bus and star topologies. In this topology a group of star network are linked along the bus prop cable. This system is best suited for huge processor networks since the topology rifts the entire net into small parts which can be effortlessly managed. The topology has several demerits one of the major being that the interconnection mainly relies on the hub that is on the middle and whenever this hub fails it leads to corruption of the entire network system. Constraints A constraints is said to be an enforcement of the data type which is involved in updating, insertion and deletion from the table. The general purpose for these constraints is to maintain the required data integrity during data updates, deletion and insertion into a given table. Constraints are further used to constrain data and also used to enforce a referential integrity and ensure security of data within the advanced database system. They also prevent incomplete data storage within the database system. There several types of constraints which include: Primary key: this is a constraints that is mainly used to uniquely identify each records within the database. Foreign key: it is a constraints through which values from the specified columns must referenced from the existing record in another table Not null: in this constraints where each value within the specified column must be NULL. Unique constraints: values in specific columns must be unique for each row in the table. Check: in this constraints a mien is itemised and it must evaluate the truth for a constraints for a constraint to be specified. A script programme to create a database table In database a table is derived as a set of values and it consist of vertical columns and the horizontal rows having the cell being a unit in which the column and the row conjoins. A table tends to have a specified no of columns and any given number of rows. Below is a script program to create a database table: Backbone System A backbone is a computer based network that comprises the number of connectivity amongst its devices such as the hubs, circuits and the connectors. This network aims at providing a way for interchange of information between various local area networks. This system aids in easy access of stored information from the database thus reducing time wastage when one needs to retrieve any given information from the database system .With the advanced technology backbone system has made a great contribution in improvement of database. Conclusion A database system enables one to store, organise and manage a huge expanse of information within the developed software. Making use of the database system helps in rising the effectiveness of business acts and declines the overall costs. They are also important to the organizations and businesses since they provide an efficient technique for managing numerous types of data. Examples of data that can be easily managed in the database include: employee records, student records, payroll, accounting, project management, and catalogue and library records. The database system also saves on time consumption since data is computerized thus little time is consumed when retrieving data from the data base as compared to the manual way of retrieving data. Comparing Waves of Immigrants in Joseph Healey’s “From...

Joseph Healey’s â€Å"From Immigrants to White Ethnics† is a generalized comparison between the varying groups of individuals that accompanied the colossal waves of immigration to the United States from Europe in the nineteenth century. Immigration to this country resulted from a number of reason such as religious persecution, individuals seeking to find employment after industrialization in their home countries limited their livelihood, and political oppositions to name a few. On arrival the immigrants knew immediately they were of the subordinate group and faced â€Å"discrimination and prejudice† (Healey, 2012, p. 54), although some more so than others. Among the first immigrants to arrive in the United States were Northern and Western European citizens. Unlike the immigrants from Ireland and Southern and Eastern Europe that chose the United States for their new homeland these individuals were probably the most accepted by the majority, even if considered jus t nominally superior to the others. Included in this group were the â€Å"English, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, Welsh, French, Dutch and Danes† (Healey, 2012, p. 56). This acceptance was due in part to the similarities that the dominate group held as ideals such as their religion, along with cultural values and characteristics. If the Northern and Western Europeans found acceptance difficult, individuals from Ireland and the Europeans from the south and east had an even more traumatic experience. Whereas the more accepted group had

Firstly there is a plan for a solid basics range to be added into Bardot’s product range, which will draw in sales and multiple item purchases in store. A basics range is a simple way to increase revenue and maintain customer loyalty. Following this is steps to maintain prices rather than to lower them, as lowering them may be difficult in the current economic situation. Next is promotion, a simple tactic that Bardot can use to draw in more revenue, especially with social media presence; which they are currently lacking. The most costly action plan is that to expand geographically, into more locations in Northern States. And finally plans to get to know the target market in order to better meet their needs. This is a task for the marketing department, which will play a great part in future moves for Bardot as a company. The Marketing Plan gives an indication of expected sales and profits of Bardot for the term of September 2012 to February 2013. The sales forecast is for the product category ‘dresses’ and is including the sales that Bardot will be making from Myer. The final figure discovered was a positive return of $7,390,543.46. Juvenile Boot Camps Essays - Misconduct, Penology, Criminal Justice

Juvenile Boot Camps Juvenile Boot Camps: The Modern Alternative Juvenile delinquency is not anything new; it is a problem that has plagued our society for the past two hundred years. Juvenile delinquency is believed to have started with the emergence of industrialization and urbanization. This same phenomenon later appeared in other countries as they began to modernize as well (Bernard 6). In the past juvenile care facilities and juvenile detention centers attempted to contain the problem of juvenile delinquency. These past attempts have failed. The modern alternative, juvenile boot camps, might turn out to be an effective way of combating the problem. The Juvenile Justice System plays a major role in combating juvenile delinquency. According to Donald J. Shoemaker, ?a juvenile is any person under the age of eighteen who commits any illegal act whether criminal or status,? (3). It is within this system that juvenile delinquency is analyzed by looking at the situation from outside. A perfect example of how this system works is by looking into a pond; a person sees a fish and the world in which it swims in, while the fish in the pond can't see the overall world it swims in (Bernard 11). This is how the Juvenile Justice System works. They look at juvenile delinquency from outside to get a better view as well as a better understanding of the overall problem. Within the Juvenile Justice System there are five constants that have remained the same for the past two hundred years. People may think these constants have changed when they compare them to earlier days but over all they haven't changed. The first constant says ?regardless of whether crime is high or low at a particular 8 time or place juveniles, especially young males, commit a greater proportion of the crime than would be expected from their proportion in the population,? says Thomas J. Bernard (Bernard 22). The juvenile crime rate fluctuates as the juvenile population fluctuates. While there may be a drop in the proportion of arrests that juveniles are involved with the rate of juvenile arrests has remained relatively constant, (Bernard 23). The second constant states that there are special laws that only juveniles are required to obey. These laws are referred to as status laws because they only apply to people with a juvenile status (Bernard 25). These kind of laws involve running away from home, refusing to attend school, refusing to obey parents, drinking alcoholic beverages, violating curfew, etc.(Bernard 26). Adults are allowed to move out of their houses or quit school. A juvenile who commits such an offense can be punished for being involved with the same activities and end up being sent to a juvenile institution. The third aspect that has remained constant is that juveniles are treated more leniently than adults when they commit the same offense. Usually when a juvenile commits a crime the punishment isn't as severe as when an adult is convicted of the exact same crime. In most states a person under the age of eighteen who commits an offense is sent to a juvenile court to be tried, many courts go on the concept of less responsibility, therefore less punishment, (Bernard 29). This may be true in most states but in some states there are offenses that are automatically sent to adult court. From there the juveniles lawyer tries to argue that the offense was committed due to immaturity. Many people believe that the current group of juveniles commit more frequent and serious crime than juveniles in the past, meaning there is a ?juvenile crime wave,? at the present time (Bernard 31). People have always believed that there is a ?juvenile crime wave? going on and that thirty to forty years earlier it was never this bad. People's impressions of how bad juveniles are has always been the same. The major difference between now and earlier times is the seriousness of offenses committed. The offenses 8 committed today are much more serious than ever before; with murder and burglary added onto the list (Bernard 33). Many people blame the Juvenile Justice policies for the supposed ?juvenile crime wave,? (Bernard 34). People argue that justice policies are too lenient or that they are too harsh. This is a belief that the Juvenile Justice System increases juvenile crime by not having a good balance between. At times serious offenders were given lenient sentences which almost encourages them to try to get away with the same crime again. In

The Planning Process Example

The Planning Process Example The Planning Process – Article Example International Planning Process Task: Planning Process In the planning process, Phases II and I mainly center on sorting out. Mostly, a country that lacks reasonable potentials for advanced analysis is purged. Phase I accesses suitability of the Country by considering environmental factors and country’s character. If the country presents an overall compromised state, it is not preferred for investment (Cateora & Graham, 2007). A country with a weak economy that avails no potential of supporting business’s activities is avoided. Additionally, the country should be stable politically, and prospects should show future stability. Political instabilities affect the business and its environment hence providing a risky venture. Importantly, the country’s resources and industrial state should sustain the project under consideration (Grünig & Kühn, 2005). Competition forces in the country also provide a noteworthy measure tool. Country presenting stiff competitions implies that the new launch may fail to tap sizeable market hence investor feels that an endeavor is not profitable. Countries with official legislations that may undercut the product is also not preferred. Virtually, any factor posing challenges of poor market, low profits, unhealthy competitions, compromised stability, and unendurable legislations leads to dropping of a country (Doole & Lowe, 2008). Phase II exerts a more analysis examining the adaptability of products in the Country’s market. The stage surveys the cultural environment essential for the establishment of the product and dissects if probable cost is sustainable. The nature provided by the products should be acceptable in the country (Doole & Lowe, 2008). This means product’s adaptation, packaging, branding and warranty need to blend with country’s state. In addition, distributions requirements like logistics and feeds should satisfy the study criteria to ensure penetration and distribution of t he product. Lastly, facilities for fueling promotions need be accessible to enhance the product’s campaign. Failing to satisfy these conditions may lead to Country’s dismissal in Phase II. ReferencesCateora, P. Managerial Traits and Skills Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Managerial Traits and Skills - Research Paper Example 2). High level of emotional intelligence is fundamental to the good relations between a manager and the subordinates as well as the clients. Emotionally intelligent managers know how to tackle the challenges that are encountered by them on daily basis. Emotional intelligence inculcates a sense in the manager to deal with others without getting caught in dysfunctional conflicts with them. This enables them to achieve the organizational objectives without having to exert unnecessarily. Dealing with people in the appropriate way in context of a certain situation is not a rule of thumb. It is more of an art. Emotionally intelligent managers have the intrinsic feeling of behaving the right way, which may not necessarily require the manager to be patient all the time. There are times when it is better to let go of things and yet there are times when the manager needs to take serious action in order to control the situation. The manager derives this sense from emotional intelligence. ... locus of control inculcates confidence in the managers that they are able to control the circumstances and mould them according to the need of the hour. On the other hand, managers who have external locus of control tend to underestimate their ability to control the circumstances. Instead, they tend to think that things will happen as they are destined to be. While the significance of destination cannot be undermined, it is equally important for a manager to believe that his/her destination is in his/her own hands. Without this belief, the manager lacks the confidence required to play his/her individualistic role in the change of circumstances for the better. Interpersonal skills of an individual have a large impact on his/her effectiveness as a manager. Interpersonal skills, as the name indicates, are the skills required to deal with people. Interpersonal skills are linked to emotional intelligence and the two have a cause-and-effect relationship. High level of emotional intelligenc e inculcates sound interpersonal skills in the manager. The fundamental key to the improvement of interpersonal skills is knowledge of business ethics. Business ethics teach a manager what is the right thinking which needs to be adopted for the evaluation and analysis of matters. Teamwork is essential for a manager as he/she is frequently required to work as part of a team. Teamwork is essentially a skill that is not very common in people. Different people have different problems that affect their tendency to be effective as a team member. Such problems include but are not limited to attitude problems, neuroticism, and group think. Some people are not able to get along with others well. This may happen because of a contrast between others’ beliefs and perceptions and theirs. This causes

Policing of Aboriginal Communities with Emphasis on Canadian Policing Essay

Policing of Aboriginal Communities with Emphasis on Canadian Policing Examples. - Urban and Rural Differences in Policing in Canada and at large to be examined - Essay Example In Canada, aboriginal policing came into being a professional, reliable and responsible government body with the introduction of the First Nations Policing Policy (FNPP) in June 1991. The objective of First Nations Policing Policy is to provide aboriginal communities of Canada social security, order and individual safety on the basis of cost-shared funding by federal and provincial governments. It is aboriginal communities choice either to develop their personal police service or opt for a police service provided by a contingent of First Nations officers. The Aboriginal Policing Directorate ensures policing that is answerable to the desires of aboriginal people residing in rural and urban areas. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – the Canadian national police service has its Aboriginal Policing Branch that prepares culturally alert policing services agreeable to aboriginal people. It takes into confidence aboriginal organizations to come up to their needs and expectations. The RCMP absorbs aboriginal people in its recruitment and plans problem-specific programs relevant to aboriginal communities needs. Some of the programs include RCMP Aboriginal Youth Training Program (AYTP), Community Suicide Intervention Program, and First Nations Community Policing Service (FNCPS). The Community Policing Model is the result of severe criticism of the traditional model of policing, which was not sufficiently equipped to deal with the issues of aboriginal communities. Now, communities get support from the police in managing their risks. Both work hand-in-hand to solve the crime and law & order problems created by local inhabitants. In the Community Policing Model, the police don’t behave irrationally to cope up with law & order issues; it takes proactive steps to recognize and remedy, to establish peace. The police intervenes in the dialogue process to know the opinion of the community on touchy issues, first by holding general level

Three theories about Congress Essay Example for Free

Three theories about Congress Essay There are at least three ways which lead a representative or a senator to vote for or against a bill or amendment: representational, organizational and attitudinal. Representational is based on the assumption that members want to get re-elected and therefore vote to please their constituents. Organizational is based on the assumption that since most constituents dont know how their senator voted, it is not essential to please them. But it is important to please fellow members of Congress. The attitudinal is based on the assumption that there are so many conflicting pressures on members of Congress that they cancel one another out, leaving them virtually free to vote on the basis of their own beliefs. The representational view has merit under special circumstances, like when the constituents have a clear view on some issue and a legislators vote on that issue will draw much attention. For instance, a legislator from a highly black district wont vote against a civil rights bill for minorities, while representatives with mostly non-minority (white) voters in their district can vote whichever way they please on the issue. Foreign policy is generally remote from the daily interest of most Americans and the public changes opinions on it rather rapidly. The constituents and the legislator vote differently for the most part on foreign policy. When an issue arouses deep passion among voters, it is necessary for the legislator to go in accordance with the majority constituents, despite his or her personal convictions if he or she wants to be re-elected. The general problem with representational explanation is that public opinion is not strong and clear on most measures on which the Congress votes. Many representatives and senators face constituencies that are divided on key issues. The organizational view deals more with legislators voting in accordance to cues provided by other legislators. Party plays a principle role in cues, most legislators will vote according to their partys will. But party and other organizations do not have clear positions on all matters. For most, a legislator is likely to be influenced by members of his or her party on the sponsoring committee. If there is no obvious liberal or conservative position on the matter the legislator takes a cue from the committee reviewing the bill. If they vote for it, so does the legislator, against it,  so is the legislator. If the vote is split, the legislator will vote the same manner as another legislator with similar beliefs (maybe he knows more about the bill than you do, you were sleeping through the last hearing). The attitudinal view is based on the individual legislators personal ideology. Where party splits, it is up the legislator to make the decision. Often times, senators from the same state may have widely differing opinions on certain issues based upon his or her ideology. A legislator who is a liberal Republican may vote democratic on some issues, and a conservative Democrat may vote republican on other issues.

Hugo Chavez: Love Him or Loathe Him? Essay -- Essays Papers

Hugo Chavez: Love Him or Loathe Him? Last week an incendiary press release exploded into the global headlines. A man by the name of Hugo Chavez ventured the claim that he had become an important target of assassination. Even more alarming, he proceeded to identify his assassin. It was none other than George W. Bush. "We have enough evidence," said Chavez, "that if anything happens to me, the person responsible will be the President of the United States" (â€Å"Defying U.S., Venezuela’s Chavez Embrace Socialism†). Who is Hugo Chavez? And why would he have the audacity to regard himself as a threat -- indeed, a lethal threat -- to the most powerful country on earth? And does he really believe he is so dangerous in the eyes of the United States that he would be viewed as a candidate for extermination? Hugo Chavez is the duly elected leader of a relatively small country on the northern coast of South America called Venezuela. It is a nation whose regional stature has, in the last twenty years, grown in influence in total disproportion to its size. The reason for Venezuela's increasing political clout is simple. It is the owner of vast reservoirs of liquid gold. It is perched on an enormous supply of oil. To a country like America, which is the world's largest consumer of fossil fuels by far, nothing could be more encouraging than to share geographical proximity with a nation so abundantly endowed with oil. Increasingly, however, a common neighborhood is all the U. S. shares in common with Venezuela. The two nations are clearly drifting apart, and at an alarming pace. Gulliver’s Travels Essay

When Blackadder and Prince George are faced with dilemma of bribing an MP to vote in the princes favour they provide us with a description of a member of parliament called Sir Talbot Buxomly who is corrupt, cruel, ineffectual and open to bribes. According to Blackadder he is a perfect candidate to become a High Court Judge and even Prince George thinks he is â€Å"a little over qualified†. â€Å"Blackadder: Sir Talbot has the worst attendance record of any Member of Parliament†¦ but if we can get him to support us, we’re safe†¦ he’s a violent, bigoted, mindless old fool† The use of satire here suggests that the high court judge isn’t necessarily as honest as you would expect a person with that much power to be. A comparison with this is Swifts description of the Emperor in chapter two. He describes how he is expensively dressed. ‘He had on his head a light helmet of gold, adorned with jewels, and a plume on the crest’. Swift compares him to the pompons King George the first. He was king of England but was brought over from Germany and did not speak the language. When the Emperor speaks at Gulliver he cannot understand a word and this is his bribe at the king. Like Sir Talbot Buxomly, the Emperor is useless and incompetent. When it comes to the actual election, Blackadder confesses that they will cheat in order to win votes. He is not alone in this outlook as one of his opponents, Pitt the Even Younger confesses what he did in order to be a decent politician – bad mouthed the opposition. – Bribed the newspapers. – Threatened to torture the public if his party lost. Once again driving home the point that the politicians will do anything within their power to get a seat in parliament. You can tell that cheating is certainly not beneath them when Pitt the Even Younger told what was a decent politician is in his opinion. â€Å"I fail to see what more a decent politician could have done† Similar examples of satire, which criticise politics and the government are also found in â€Å"Gulliver’s Travels†. In Lilliput anybody who jumps over the highest rope gets a position in court and how candidates jump over and creep under a stick held at various heights win the silken threads which show the kings favourite. Just like in Blackadder getting a job in the court in lilliput is not to down how good you would be at the job but is down to how much you can creep, crawl and pander to the king. â€Å"Whoever performs his part with the most agility and hold out the largest in creeping and crawling, is rewarded†¦ â€Å"

How To Take Notes

It seems that it would be easy to write down stuff in class. That learning how to take notes would be a waste of time. However, the opposite is true. If you learn how to take notes effectively and efficiently, you’ll save yourself hours of study time just by observing a few simple tricks. If you dont like this method, then try out the Cornell System for taking notes! Choose Appropriate Paper The right paper can mean the difference between complete frustration in class and organized notes. To take notes effectively, choose a sheet of loose, clean, lined paper, preferably college-ruled. There are a couple reasons for this choice:Choosing loose paper to take notes allows you to rearrange your notes in a binder if necessary, lend them easily to a friend, and remove and replace a page if it gets damaged.Using college-ruled paper means that the spaces between the lines are smaller, allowing you to write more per page, which is advantageous when you’re studying a lot of material. It won’t seem as much, and thus, as overwhelming. Use Pencil and Skip Lines Nothing will make you more frustrated than taking notes and having to draw arrows from new content to a related idea your teacher was talking about 20 minutes ago. That’s why it’s important to skip lines. If your teacher brings up something new, you’ll have a place to squeeze it in. And, if you take your notes in pencil, your notes will stay neat if you make a mistake and you won’t have to rewrite everything just to make sense of the lecture. Label Your Page You don’t have to use a clean sheet of paper for every new note-taking session if you use appropriate labels. Start with the topic of the discussion (for study purposes later), fill in the date, class, chapters associated with the notes and teacher’s name. At the end of your notes for the day, draw a line crossing the page so you’ll have a very clear demarcation of each day’s notes. During the next lecture, use same format so your binder is consistent. Use an Organizational System Speaking of organization, use one in your notes. Many people use an outline (I.II.III. A.B.C. 1.2.3.) but you can use circles or stars or whatever symbols youd like, as long as you stay consistent. If your teacher is scattered and doesn’t really lecture in that format, then just organize new ideas with numbers, so you don’t get one long paragraph of loosely-related content. Listen for Importance Some of the stuff your teacher says is irrelevant, but much of it needs remembering. So how do you decipher what to put down in your notes and what to disregard? Listen for importance by picking up dates, new terms or vocabulary, concepts, names, and explanations of ideas. If your teacher writes it down anywhere, he or she wants you to know it. If she talks about it for 15 minutes, she’s gonna quiz you on it. If he repeats it several times in the lecture, you’re responsible. Put Content Into Your Own Words Learning how to take notes begins with learning how to paraphrase and summarize. You will learn new material better if you put it into your own words. When your teacher waxes wordy about Leningrad for 25 minutes, summarize the main idea into a few sentences you’ll be able to remember. If you try to write everything down word for word, you’ll miss stuff, and confuse yourself. Listen attentively, then write. Write Legibly It kind of goes without saying, but I’m gonna say it anyway. If your penmanship has ever been compared to chicken scratch, you better work on it. You’ll thwart your taking notes efforts if you can’t read what you’ve written! Force yourself to write clearly. I guarantee that you will not remember the exact lecture when it comes to exam time, so your notes are often going to be your only lifeline. Note Taking Tips Sit near the front of the class so you dont get distractedBring the appropriate supplies, good college-ruled paper and a pen or pencil that will allow you to write legibly and easily.Keep a folder or binder for every class, so youre more likely to keep your notes organized.
